The Butterfly is actually part of a larger collection titled Le Papillon, which consists of 32 short pieces published in Vienna in 1815. These pieces are more like studies or exercises but designed to be musically enjoyable as well. Don't be surprised if this one makes you think of butterflies! No. 22 from Le Papillon uses graceful melodies and flowing arpeggios and scales to create a feeling of weightlessness and flight.
