Funeral March of a Marionette is a piece of music by Charles Gounod that sounds both funny and a little spooky at the same time, just like Halloween. It comes from a funny little story that Gounod imagined long ago. A marionette is a kind of puppet with strings, and in Gounod’s story, one of these puppets gets into a fight, loses, and, well… that is the end for him. But instead of writing sad, serious music, Gounod decided to make it light, bouncy, and playful, almost like the other puppets are holding a silly parade to say goodbye.
